Frequently asked questions

How is alimony calculated?
Alimony is calculated based on the Trema standards. The recipient's needs (based on the standard of living during marriage) and the payer's capacity (income minus expenses) determine the amount. We prepare a calculation for you.
How long does a divorce take?
A joint divorce takes an average of 3 to 4 months. A unilateral divorce with disputes can take 6 to 12 months. Complex cases with property division and alimony disputes may take longer.
Can I lose custody of my children?
Joint custody remains the starting point after divorce. The court can only grant sole custody if necessary in the child's interest (Article 1:251a BW). Termination of custody is only possible in cases of serious neglect or abuse.
