Electronische handtekening
Electronic signature
An electronic signature is a digital method for signing documents and authenticating the identity of the signatory.
An electronic signature consists of electronic data attached to or logically associated with other electronic data and used to identify the signatory. In the Netherlands and the EU, this is governed by the eIDAS Regulation, which distinguishes between simple, advanced and qualified electronic signatures.
The legal effects depend on the category concerned: a qualified electronic signature carries the same legal value as a handwritten signature. This enables contracts, deeds and official documents to be executed electronically without the need for physical presence.
In practice, electronic signatures are widely used by notaries, public authorities and in commercial transactions to enhance speed, reduce costs and ensure legal certainty.
“The agreement was validly concluded by means of an electronic signature through a qualified platform.”
