Revocation
Revocation is the withdrawal of a previously issued legal act or decision, thereby terminating its legal effect.
Revocation is a juristic act by which a party withdraws a previously made declaration or decision, such as an offer, a will or an administrative decision. This mechanism enables legal situations to be adjusted in response to changed circumstances or new facts.
Under Dutch law, revocation is subject to specific conditions that vary by area of law. An offer, for example, may in principle be revoked before acceptance has occurred, unless the parties have agreed otherwise or revocation would be unreasonable.
The significance of revocation lies in the flexibility and protection of interests it affords. In practice, it is frequently invoked in contract law, the law of succession and administrative law to correct unintended or erroneous juristic acts.
“The seller has notified the buyer in a timely manner and in writing of the revocation of its offer.”
