Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber of Commerce (KvK) is the official Dutch authority responsible for registering businesses and maintaining the trade register.

The Chamber of Commerce is a public organisation responsible for the registration of all companies and legal entities in the Netherlands. It maintains the trade register, in which information relating to owners, directors and activities is recorded.

Registration with the Chamber of Commerce is mandatory for virtually every enterprise and forms the basis for obtaining a KvK number. This number is required for opening a business bank account, entering into contracts and complying with tax and statutory obligations.

In legal practice, the KvK register is regularly consulted to verify the authority of directors and to confirm the legal personality of parties in transactions or proceedings.

“Before the agreement was signed, the lawyer verified the authority to represent by means of an extract from the Chamber of Commerce.”
