Audit Committee

An audit committee is a committee within an association that audits the financial administration and the treasury.

An audit committee is a body established within associations, including owners’ associations, to review the cash position, the accounts and the annual financial statements. The committee is typically composed of members appointed by the general meeting and reports its findings prior to the meeting’s approval of the annual accounts.

The audit committee provides internal control and enhances transparency in financial management. This is particularly important in larger associations or owners’ associations where the financial stakes of the members are significant.

In practice, the audit committee is usually constituted on an annual basis and may make recommendations concerning the administration or the performance of the treasurer.

“The audit committee has carefully examined the annual accounts and found no irregularities.”
