Lease
Lease is a form of financing whereby the lessee obtains the right to use an asset, such as a car or a machine, from the lessor in return for periodic payments, without the lessee becoming the direct owner.
A lease is an agreement whereby one party (the lessor) makes an asset available to another party (the lessee) for an agreed period in exchange for payment of a lease fee. The lessor remains the legal owner, while the lessee holds the right of use and is often responsible for maintenance and insurance.
In the Netherlands, leasing is widely applied to vehicles, equipment and, on occasion, real estate. It offers advantages such as the preservation of liquidity and tax deductibility, depending on whether the arrangement is an operating lease or a finance lease. In practice, lease agreements are used by both consumers and businesses and are frequently combined with purchase options at the end of the term.
“The entrepreneur opted for leasing to finance the new company car without incurring a large one-off expenditure.”
