Natuurlijk persoon

Natural person

A natural person is an individual with legal personality. This is in contrast to a legal person, such as a company.

A natural person is a human individual who is recognised under the law as a legal subject and who is thereby capable of independently holding rights and obligations. This includes, inter alia, the capacity to enter into contracts, acquire property and incur liability.

In Dutch law, the distinction between natural persons and legal persons is relevant to liability, tax obligations and procedural capacity.

In practice, the term is frequently used when drafting agreements or when determining who is personally liable for acts or debts.

“The natural person who has taken out the loan remains personally liable for its repayment.”
