Assets
Assets are the property and rights of an undertaking or person that are recorded in the balance sheet and represent economic value.
Assets form the left-hand side of the balance sheet and comprise fixed assets, such as real property, machinery and intellectual property rights, and current assets, such as inventories, receivables and liquid assets.
In Dutch law, assets are relevant to the assessment of an undertaking’s financial position, particularly in proceedings such as bankruptcy, suspension of payments or attachment.
Lawyers apply the concept in property-law advice, contracts and disputes concerning ownership or security interests.
“The trustee examined the assets of the bankrupt company to determine which assets were eligible for sale.”
