Staff Meeting
A staff meeting is a meeting between an employer and its employees to discuss company matters or to provide information.
A staff meeting is an organized gathering at which the employer informs or consults employees on matters relating to the business and the employment relationship. These may range from operational issues to changes in terms and conditions of employment.
Under Dutch employment law, staff meetings are particularly relevant for smaller undertakings without a works council, where they serve as a means of consultation and information exchange. The Works Councils Act establishes certain rights and obligations in relation to such meetings in specific circumstances.
In practice, staff meetings are used to build support, prevent misunderstandings and foster communication between the employer and the workforce, thereby contributing to a stable employment relationship.
“During the staff meeting, the management explained the proposed reorganization and answered questions from the employees.”
