Conclusie van repliek
Reply
The statement of reply is the written pleading in which the claimant responds to the defendant's statement of defence in civil proceedings.
In civil proceedings, the plaintiff, upon receipt of the statement of defence, files a reply. In it, the plaintiff may rebut the defences raised by the defendant and further substantiate his own position.
This procedural document is relevant because it affords the plaintiff the opportunity to complete the debate before the case proceeds further. It prevents the plaintiff from subsequently being denied the chance to respond to new arguments.
In practice, the reply is often used to introduce additional evidence or to clarify a specific legal characterisation. Following its submission, the defendant’s rejoinder usually follows.
“In his reply, the plaintiff contests the defendant's defence that the claim is statute-barred.”
